May 28th, 2008
It has been reported by the Columbian government that new rules have been set by the bush administration this week that might create obstacles to the Confederated tribes of Warm Springs, which has applied for 25 acres of land in the trust at Cascade Locks for 90000 sq. foot casino in the heart of Columbia River Gorge.
In order to acquire lands for the existing reservations for the casinos the authorities are required to meet the new set standards by the Interior Department. The interior secretary Carl Artman said that the dept. will scrutinize more to the proposals of the casino which are farther from the reservations. Under these new standards set the Warm Springs tribe should consult for the proposed casino if it is within 25-mile radius and seek their assistance whereas the as per the previous rule the consultation required with the communities is 10-mile radius.
