Massive job cuts at the Tropicana Casino
September 25th, 2008
A casino worker’s union insensitively reacted on the decision of state regulators, on the massive job cuts at the Tropicana Casino and Resort will not be allowed to interfere in a hearing on whether the gambling house should have its license renewed or not.
The state Casino Control Commission also refused to ignore the concerns about staffing levels at the casino in making its licensing decision. The Tropicana Casino and Resort had disagreed that such aspects were outside the scope of what the commission could legally take into account in deciding on a license.
The worker’s union has started to battle with the new management of Tropicana over job cuts and working conditions. The commission denied a request by UNITE-HERE Local 54 to interfere in the hearing as an interested party.
