Lawsuit against casino measure rejects by Missouri judge
October 22nd, 2008
By a Fort Mill times report, a lawsuit looking for stripping a proposal to amend Missouri’s casino laws from the Nov. 4, the ballot was rejected by a state judge on Monday 21 October, 2008. The evaluation would cancel Missouri’s unique law limiting gambling losses to $500 per two-hour period; restrict the licensing of new casinos; and increase taxes on existing casinos to direct more money to public education.
In two lawsuits that were finally combined, a Cape Girardeau businessman, a state lawmaker and gambling critics challenged the proposal that it was illegally mixed multiple subjects in an endeavor to ‘logroll’ voters and was unfairly summarized on the ballot.
