Dutch government wants to stop illegal online gambling

May 21st, 2008

As per the news by Reuters, the Dutch government doesn’t want the targeted online casinos to be helped by the banks on financial matters and has asked the banks to stop providing any sort of financial services to them.

The Justice Ministry spokeswoman has said that it is an activity to offer the gambling services without a permit in Netherlands. She targeted the online gambling companies and said these companies know that they can break the law.

The companies which were targeted for such a law were Swedish online gambling site Unibet and also a Dutch firm Oranje Casino.

The only site which has a legal permission in the Netherlands is the Dutch state lottery De Lotto.

The exception which is given by the Dutch government is considered to be a direct opposition for the EU which is pushing its members to open up their markets for the competitions. This is not only the first case as it has happened in the past with the countries of France and Greece has also declined the offer to open up their markets to the European Union. Though, earlier this year the European Union gave Netherlands and Greece final warning before it issues court action over their gaming restrictions.

Countries like Britain have opened the doors to a regulated online gaming. The United States ordained the unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement act in 2006, October with the mission to ban online gambling but the players are allowed to continue playing on sites that usually allows a lot of US traffic.
